Salons have used before/after photos for decades. The AI version cut the salon out — upload a selfie, see a dozen possible cuts and colors in seconds. @thecutclub on Instagram popularized it as 'commit-less hair makeovers' in February 2026, targeting people already in the stylist's chair trying to decide. The trend stuck because it actually works: a single photo gets a realistic preview, and the variations are good enough that hairdressers reference them.
